Many Old Testament prophecies foretold the coming Messiah in Jesus. In Isaiah 40, we see a direct reference to John the Baptist and the salvation that would come. However, these passages were initially written to an audience in Judah and meant something to them at the time. Understanding this context gives us a greater picture of the arrival of Jesus, and what it means for us today.
